Liou Xie is an Associate Professor of Geography and Environmental Studies at SUNY Plattsburgh, specializing in urban and economic geography, sustainable transportation, and community planning. She holds degrees from Beijing Normal University, the University of Hong Kong, and Arizona State University. Her research focuses on urban sustainability issues, with projects including comprehensive planning for Schuyler Falls, redevelopment analysis around Plattsburgh's train station, and employment challenges in the North Country. She uses GIS, CorelDraw, Photoshop, and Sketchup in her work.

Research Interests: Liou examines urban sustainability through interdisciplinary approaches, addressing transportation infrastructure gaps and community resilience. Teaching & Global Engagement: She designs international field experiences, including a study abroad program in China for SUNY students (launched 2018), and organizes Montreal field trips for planning students. She has collaborated on rural development projects in Hunan province and contributed to environmental management courses at a Chinese sister university.
Current Projects: Engaged in local initiatives to assess service insufficiencies and redevelopment potential in Plattsburgh, reflecting her commitment to regional sustainability challenges.
