Lionel Lang is a Lecturer at the University of Gävle, specializing in Mathematics with a focus on Algebraic and Tropical Geometry. His research bridges theoretical gaps between algebraic and tropical moduli spaces, aiming to develop compactifications that enable solving complex algebraic problems through simplified tropical counterparts.
Current Project: He leads the project "Tropical compactifications of moduli spaces" (2024–2027), funded by the Swedish Research Council. This work explores how tropicalization transforms algebraic shapes into combinatorial structures, facilitating problem-solving in algebraic geometry.
Prior Positions: Before joining Gävle, he held postdoctoral and temporary lecturer roles at Stockholm University (2017–2020) and Uppsala University (2015–2017). He earned his PhD at the University of Geneva in 2014 under Professor Grigory Mikhalkin.
