Lion Raaz is a PhD candidate at Freie Universität Berlin's Department of Biochemistry in the Knaus Group for Signal Transduction. He is affiliated with the International Max Planck Research School for Biology and Computation (IMPRS-BAC) at the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Genetics, working under Stefan Mundlos' group for Development and Disease. His research bridges chromatin organization and cellular signaling with a focus on mechanical force effects.
Education:
- M.Sc. in Biophysics from Humboldt Universität zu Berlin
- Research experience at ETH Zurich's applied mechanobiology group
Research Focus: Investigates how mechanical forces influence gene regulation through chromatin dynamics and signaling pathways. His work involves ATAC-seq analysis of endothelial cells under fluid shear stress and exploring mechanotransduction mechanisms in developmental biology contexts.
Scientific Contributions: Recent publications (2023-2024) demonstrate expertise in chromatin accessibility profiling and mechanosensitive transcriptional regulation. Earlier work (2019) established foundations in mechanical force applications for immunotherapy.
Teaching:
- Foundations in Bio-Medicine lecture (FU Berlin, Bioinformatics Master's Program)
- Practical course: Embryonal Development (Charité – Universitätsmedizin, Medizin Modellstudiengang)
- Seminar on DNA Replication to Chromosome Inheritance (Charité – Universitätsmedizin)
Laboratory: Part of the Knaus Group at Freie Universität Berlin, which recently became the first Green Level Certified Lab at the university through My Green Lab.
