Lindy King is a distinguished academic and researcher at Flinders University's College of Nursing and Health Sciences, where she serves as a Professor with a focus on patient safety, deteriorating patient care, and chronic disease management for older adults. Her work bridges clinical practice, education, and research, with significant contributions to healthcare quality improvement and patient safety initiatives across multiple health networks in South Australia.
Dr. King holds a PhD from King's College London, a Bachelor of Nursing (Education) from SACAE (Sturt), a Diploma of Applied Science (Nursing) from SACAE (Sturt), and is a Registered Nurse from the Royal Adelaide Hospital. Her educational background provides a strong foundation for her interdisciplinary approach to healthcare research and education.
Her research interests center on consumer and healthcare professional recognition and response to deteriorating patients, older people's self-management of chronic conditions at home after discharge, and the development of effective rapid response systems. She has pioneered approaches to involving consumers in patient safety initiatives, particularly in the detection and reporting of patient deterioration, and has developed innovative educational materials to enhance healthcare professional and consumer knowledge in these critical areas.
Analysis of Dr. King's recent publications reveals a consistent focus on patient safety systems, particularly rapid response mechanisms and consumer activation in healthcare settings. Her work demonstrates a methodological preference for qualitative and mixed-methods approaches to understand complex healthcare phenomena. A significant trend in her research is the development and evaluation of educational interventions to improve recognition of patient deterioration across various healthcare settings, with growing emphasis on consumer and family involvement in safety initiatives.
