Lindsey French is an Assistant Professor in Creative Technologies at the University of Regina's Faculty of Media, Art, and Performance. A multidisciplinary artist, educator, and writer, they focus on multi-sensory signaling within ecological and technological systems. Their work bridges art, botany, and technology to explore non-human communication and environmental justice.
French holds an interdisciplinary BA in Environment, Interaction, and Design from Hampshire College, and an MFA in Art and Technology Studies from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Their research investigates plant agency through installations like Phytovision and Scent Poems for Pipeline Plants, which reimagine human-plant relationships through scent, video, and participatory practices.
Key exhibitions include the Museum of Contemporary Art (Chicago), Onsite Gallery (Toronto), and the John Michael Kohler Arts Center. Collaborative projects with Alex Young address ecological issues through scent-based installations and data visualization.
Teaching emphasizes creative technologies as tools for environmental inquiry. Current work explores postcolonial frameworks in art and science, challenging anthropocentric perspectives through multisensory engagement with non-human ecologies.
