Lindsay Blair is an Associate Professor and Reader in Visual Culture and Theory at the University of the Highland and Islands (UHI) Moray. Their research focuses on post-colonial visual culture in Scotland/Highlands, transnational identity, and interdisciplinary art practices. Blair holds a PhD in Art History and Theory from the University of Essex (1990), an MA from the same institution (1982), and a BA in English from the University of Stirling (1979).
Key research interests include redefining Scottish art narratives through new technologies and political geographies, analyzing American Surrealism (Joseph Cornell) and Abstract Expressionism (Jon Schueler), and exploring art's role in public health and sustainable development. Their work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to education and environmental sustainability.
Blair has published extensively on topics like intermedial art resilience, experimental film, and Highland cultural identity. They serve as a reviewer for the Hungarian Journal of English and American Studies and contributed to a documentary on Joseph Cornell. Recent activities include organizing the 1st international conference on Hugh MacDiarmid.
