Lindsay Alpert is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pathology at the University of Chicago's Pritzker School of Medicine. As a surgical pathologist specializing in gastrointestinal pathology, Dr. Alpert provides expert diagnostic services for neoplastic and non-neoplastic diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, biliary tree, and pancreas.
Dr. Alpert received her MD from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in 2012. She completed her residency in Anatomic Pathology and fellowship in Gastrointestinal and Hepatic Pathology at the University of Chicago, finishing her fellowship in 2016 and residency in 2017.
Dr. Alpert's research focuses on gastrointestinal pathology with particular expertise in inflammatory bowel disease, colorectal carcinoma, and the gut microbiome. Her work examines dysplasia patterns in IBD patients, histologic features of enteropathies, and the impact of therapeutic interventions on gastrointestinal tissues. She has made significant contributions to understanding the histologic spectrum of various gastrointestinal conditions and their clinical implications, with numerous publications in high-impact journals like Modern Pathology and Gastroenterology.
Analysis of Dr. Alpert's recent publications reveals a strong focus on gastrointestinal pathology, particularly inflammatory bowel disease and colorectal neoplasia. Her work spans diagnostic pathology, molecular characterization of gastrointestinal tumors, and the impact of therapeutic interventions. Many studies examine dysplasia patterns in IBD patients across different age groups and presentations, while others investigate rare gastrointestinal conditions and their histologic features. Her research often bridges basic science with clinical applications, examining how dietary and pharmacological factors influence gastrointestinal pathology.
Dr. Alpert actively collaborates with numerous researchers and clinicians at the University of Chicago and beyond, contributing to multidisciplinary studies that bridge pathology with clinical gastroenterology and oncology. Her network includes prominent colleagues such as John Hart, Namrata Setia, and Shu-Yuan Xiao.
Dr. Alpert maintains an active research laboratory focused on gastrointestinal pathology, where she mentors trainees and collaborates with colleagues on various research projects examining the histopathology of gastrointestinal diseases. Her team works closely with clinicians to translate pathological findings into improved diagnostic criteria and patient care, particularly for complex cases involving inflammatory bowel disease and gastrointestinal neoplasia.
