Linde Götz serves as Deputy Head of the Department of Agricultural Markets and Associate Professor at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg. She is affiliated with the Leibniz Institute of Agricultural Development in Transition Economies (IAMO) where she leads research on agricultural markets and trade. Her work focuses on the intersection of agricultural economics, international trade, and food security with particular emphasis on Russia, the former Soviet Union, and global grain markets.
Dr. Götz received her education at Humboldt University of Berlin, University of Minnesota (USA), and University of Tübingen. She earned her PhD in Agricultural Economics from the University of Göttingen through a cooperation project with the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Her academic credentials include a habilitation titled 'Trade policy interventions on agricultural markets in countries of the former Soviet Union and the Balkans'.
Her research interests span agri-food value chains, international agricultural trade, and sustainable food systems, with regional expertise in Russia, the former Soviet Union, EU, and Israel. She specializes in time-series econometrics to analyze agricultural markets, with recent work focusing on the impact of Russia's war in Ukraine on global grain supply chains, consumer acceptance of biotechnological breeding technologies like CRISPR, and agricultural development in Russia with implications for global food security.
Analysis of her recent publications reveals a strong focus on Russian agricultural markets, particularly wheat trade dynamics in the Black Sea region. Her work increasingly examines the geopolitical dimensions of food security, export restrictions during crises, and the integration of grain markets amid conflict. She also investigates consumer behavior regarding innovative food technologies, demonstrating methodological expertise in econometric analysis of agricultural markets.
Dr. Götz actively contributes to the academic community through service on the Board of the European Association of Agricultural Economists, Editorial Board of 'Agribusiness: An International Journal', Scientific Advisory Board of 'Russland-Analysen', and Advisory Board of the innovation alliance 'BioZ'. Her research is supported through multiple projects including AGRICISTRADE, AGRISPRING, BlackSeaGrain, CRISPR, GERUKA, and VALUMICS.
At IAMO, Dr. Götz leads research on agricultural markets, marketing, and world agricultural trade. She supervises numerous research projects examining agricultural policy interventions, market integration in transition economies, and the impact of geopolitical conflicts on food systems. Her work bridges academic research with policy relevance, particularly regarding food security implications of trade restrictions and market interventions during crises.
