Linda Zhao is a Frank H.T. Rhodes Postdoctoral Fellow at the Cornell Population Center.
Her educational background includes:
- PhD in Sociology from Harvard University (2020)
- MA in Statistics from Harvard University (2017)
- BA in Economics from Princeton University
Her research employs social networks and computational social science to analyze contextual processes underlying differential outcomes, with a particular emphasis on ethnic and racial inequality, immigrant integration, and policing. She investigates how social contexts (such as levels of diversity and inequality in a population) shape intergroup dynamics in networks and organizations, how social networks influence individual behaviors and decisions, and how networks generate inequality. Her work demonstrates that multidimensional social structures—where ethnic differences coincide with socioeconomic disparities—create stronger barriers to interethnic friendships, revealing that ethnic boundary salience depends on intersecting social configurations.
Dr. Zhao presented her research titled 'Ethnic Diversity, Consolidation, and Network Integration' at the University of California, Berkeley in November 2021, examining adolescent social dynamics in Western European classrooms.
