Professor Linda Steele is a faculty member at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) Law Faculty, holding the title of Professor. She also serves as an Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of South Australia. Her research focuses on disability law, social justice, and legal redress mechanisms, particularly addressing institutional violence and systemic injustices faced by disabled individuals. She has contributed to significant projects like the 'Truth Justice Repair' initiative and co-edited pivotal works such as Sites of Conscience: Place, Memory and the Project of Deinstitutionalization.
Professor Steele's academic journey includes visiting roles at Harvard University and York University, and she has received prestigious awards, including the inaugural Hudson-Primer Fellowship (2024) and the Australian Legal Education Award (2021). Her work emphasizes collaboration with Disabled People’s Organisations to ensure marginalized voices shape legal and policy outcomes.
Her research spans disability reproductive rights, labor exploitation in segregated employment, and the intersection of law with dementia care. She leads interdisciplinary projects on reparative urban planning and heritage management, advocating for former disability institutions to be transformed into sites of conscience.
