Linda Reven is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry at McGill University, within the Faculty of Science. She holds a B.A. from Carleton College (1983), a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois (1990), and completed postdoctoral research at the University of California, Berkeley (1990–1992). Her research focuses on stimuli-responsive nanomaterials, leveraging solid-state NMR characterization. Key areas include patchy nanoparticles, polymer-functionalized nanoparticles in liquid crystals, and surface chemistry effects on nanoparticle properties. She leads the Reven Group, based in Otto Maass Laboratories (Offices 214 and Lab 430), and teaches courses such as CHEM 214 (Physical Chemistry/Biological Sciences), CHEM 555 (Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy), and CHEM 634 (Seminar in Advanced Materials).
Her work addresses challenges in nanoparticle assembly, nanocomposite design, and ligand chemistry for stability and functionality. Recent projects involve gold nanoparticle lattices templated by liquid crystals and hydrogen-bonded liquid crystalline systems. She actively contributes to advancing nanomaterials for applications in energy, electronics, and biomedical fields.
