Dr. Radford earned her PhD in Education with a focus on Society, Culture, and Literacies from the University of Ottawa in January 2008. She holds a Master of Arts in English Literature from Dalhousie University (January 1993), a Bachelor of Education in Intermediate/Senior English from Saint Mary's University (January 1991), and a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from Queen's University at Kingston (January 1988).
Her research interests span multiple interconnected domains including curriculum policy and renewal, digital pedagogies that foster self-reflective reading practices, and the empowerment of marginalized youth through critical literacies. Dr. Radford is particularly focused on pedagogies of reconciliation, supporting urban education in high-needs settings, and conceptualizing youth studies as emancipatory. Her work consistently addresses issues of equity, diversity, and social difference, with a strong emphasis on how digital technologies can facilitate civic engagement and critical consciousness in educational contexts.
Dr. Radford's publications reveal a consistent trajectory examining the intersection of digital technologies, urban education, and social justice. Her recent work shows increasing focus on reconciliation education in the Canadian context, particularly how teachers can navigate Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action. She has also maintained a strong interest in children's and youth literature as sites for critical engagement, often exploring how digital storytelling and media can transform traditional pedagogical approaches.
