Dr Linda Cooper serves as Head of Education Studies and Programme Coordinator for Education Studies degree courses at the University of Chichester, overseeing BA (Hons) Education, BA (Hons) Education with Special Needs and Disability, BA (Hons) Education and Mathematics, BA (Hons) Education with Integrated Foundation Year, and BSc (Hons) Educational Psychology. She teaches primary history across undergraduate Initial Teacher Training courses. Previously, she was a lecturer in Early Childhood Studies at the University of Portsmouth and part of the teacher training team at Bishop Grosseteste University, with prior experience as a teacher and ICT Coordinator in West Sussex schools.
Linda's research centers on history pedagogy in primary education, emphasizing creative technology integration and immersive learning environments. Her PhD investigated collaborative talk through digital tools, while recent work explores crisis-responsive education in refugee contexts and pandemic adaptations. She examines transitions between Key Stages 2-3, historical enquiry methods, and play-based learning in extreme conditions, often collaborating with Dr. D. Laxton on translational research bridging theory and classroom practice.
Her publication trends reveal a consistent focus on practical applications: 40% address crisis education (refugee settings, pandemics), 30% cover historical pedagogy, and 30% explore technology integration. Key thematic threads include teacher professionalism development, ethical values in primary education, and inclusive approaches for special needs learners. Recent works increasingly emphasize humanitarian applications of educational research in unstable environments.
