Linda Bzhetaj is a Special Instructor in the Department of Sociology, Anthropology, Social Work and Criminal Justice at Oakland University, within the College of Arts & Sciences. Her academic journey includes a Ph.D. in Sociology from Michigan State University (2013), an M.A. (2009), and a B.A. (2006) from Oakland University. She has held roles such as Visiting Assistant Professor and Special Lecturer before transitioning to her current position.
Research Interests: Dr. Bzhetaj’s work focuses on gender dynamics, migration, family structures among refugees, and cultural change. Her recent studies include student anxiety in social statistics courses and intersections of privilege, race, and gender in earnings inequality. She also explores linguistic isolation and immigrant belonging in transnational contexts.
Awards: She has received the Order of the Plume award (2016, 2018) from Oakland University’s College of Arts & Sciences and multiple service awards from Michigan State University and Oakland University. Her undergraduate work earned recognition for feminist scholarship and sociology writing.
Professional Contributions: As Managing Editor of Gender & Society (2015–2017), she contributed to scholarly discourse. Her research on Albanian cultural honor systems and family dynamics among African refugees reflects her interdisciplinary approach.
