Lincoln Tobier

Lincoln Tobier is a Senior Lecturer at Otis College of Art and Design, where he has taught since 2013. He earned his BFA in Fine Arts and Sculpture/New Genres from the Rhode Island School of Design (1986) and relocated to Los Angeles in 2000. His work focuses on the intersection of aesthetics, ideology, and mass communication.

Tobier’s research critically examines the public sphere, systemic erosion of open debate, and the role of mass media in shaping cultural production and political influence. His practice spans sculpture, painting, photography, video, installations, and performance.

His artwork is held in public collections including the Museum of Contemporary Art and Hammer Museum in Los Angeles. Exhibitions span institutions like the Biennale di Venezia (2003), MOCA (2008), and Hessel Museum of Art at Bard College (2018).
