معرفی
Lina Stankovic is a Professor in the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering within the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Strathclyde. She currently serves as Deputy Head of Department for Learning & Teaching, demonstrating leadership in academic education. Her work aligns with key university research themes including Measurement Science & Enabling Technologies, Energy, and Health & Well-Being.
She holds a PhD and BEng (Hons) in Electronic Communication Systems from Lancaster University.
Her research expertise lies in Signal and Information Processing, with a strong emphasis on AI and machine learning to extract meaningful insights from complex, noisy, and multimodal sensor data. Key application areas include non-intrusive load monitoring (NILM) for energy disaggregation, AI for decarbonization in the built environment, agriculture, and transport (including EVs), environmental impact assessment of food systems and appliances, and micro-seismic signal analysis for landslide mitigation and geothermal energy extraction. Her work is inherently interdisciplinary and contributes to tackling climate change and advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Her recent publications highlight a strong trend in applying advanced AI techniques—such as graph neural networks, transformers, and knowledge distillation—to real-world energy and environmental challenges. These works focus on smart meter analytics, equitable EV charging planning, edge-based NILM, and human-in-the-loop seismic classification, demonstrating both technical innovation and societal impact.
She has received notable scientific recognition, including:
- Finalist of the World first 10K Best paper Award (Top 3%)
- Paper awarded top 5% by reviewers in Eusipco-2010 and invited for journal publication
Lina Stankovic actively leads and contributes to major research projects such as the Digital Dairy Chain Innovation Voucher (as Principal Investigator) and JED-AIs: Justice, Energy, Demand flexibility and AI for Sustainability (as Co-investigator), supported by EPSRC and UKRI. She supervises PhD students and researchers, and her work involves extensive collaboration with industry and non-academic stakeholders. She is also an Editorial Board member of the IEEE Transactions on Signal and Information Processing over Networks and a member of the EPSRC Peer Review College.
She leads or co-leads several research initiatives and innovation projects, often in collaboration with her research partner Vladimir Stankovic, focusing on AI-driven energy analytics, sustainable farming, and community energy schemes.
