Lina Jonikė is an Associate Professor and Lecturer in the Textile Department at the Kaunas Faculty of Vilnius Academy of Arts. Her artistic practice focuses on conceptual embroidery, integrating textile techniques with photography to explore themes of identity, memory, and the human body. She holds a prominent position in contemporary Lithuanian and international art scenes, having participated in numerous exhibitions and solo shows across Europe, the USA, and Japan.
Education:
- 1989-1995: Studied Textiles at the Kaunas Faculty, Vilnius Academy of Arts
Research Interests: Jonikė’s work investigates the intersection of traditional textile techniques and contemporary art, particularly through embroidery’s capacity to reinterpret photographic imagery. Key themes include the body as a canvas for cultural narratives, and the tension between preservation and transformation in material memory.
Awards and Recognition:
- Recipient of multiple stipends from national and municipal cultural bodies
- 2014 Best 2013 Art Work Award for 'Old Man I-II'
- 1997 Excellence Award for 'Arnotas'
Academic Contributions: Jonikė has delivered lectures and workshops globally, including at the Art Academy of Latvia and the International Conference on Textile and Fibre Art in Riga. She has curated exhibitions such as the 2016 'Black and White+Mint' at the Textile Art Berlin fair.
Public Engagement: Active member of the Lithuanian Artists’ Association and a frequent participant in international art projects.
