Assoc. Prof. Dr. Miglė Lebednykaitė is a textile artist, art historian, and museologist affiliated with Vilnius Academy of Arts (Textile Art and Design department) and Vilnius University (Institute of Asian and Transcultural Studies). Since 2016, she serves as Associate Professor at VAA, teaching World Textile History and Lithuanian Ethnographic Textiles, and since 2013 at Vilnius University, teaching East Asian Art. She has been Head of the Ethnic Culture and Anthropology Collections Department at the National Museum of Lithuania since 2020.
- Education: BA/MA in Textile from Vilnius Academy of Arts (1995–2001), studies at China Textile University (2000–2001), Kyoto University/Kyoto City University of Arts (2004–2006) under Japanese Government Scholarship (MEXT), PhD in Art Criticism (2013).
- Research Focus: Interdisciplinary studies of Lithuanian ethnographic textiles, East Asian art, and orientalist art collections in Lithuania, with emphasis on museum collection provenance, cultural representation, and artistic attribution challenges.
- Projects: Leads research like “Images of Cross-crafting in the Collection of Photographs by Adomas Varnas” (2022, funded by the Research Council of Lithuania).
- Memberships: Asia Collection Network-Europe (Scientific Leader, Baltic Region since 2022), Lithuanian Art Historians Society (since 2016), Lithuanian Artists’ Association (since 2002), Baltos kandys artistic group (since 1998).
- Publications: Authored/edited multiple catalogues on Lithuanian national costume and published peer-reviewed articles on ethnographic textiles, museology, and East Asian-Lithuanian cultural intersections.
