Professor Lin Fung is a medical scientist and researcher in Medical Laboratory Science at the University of the Sunshine Coast (UniSC), Queensland, Australia. She holds a PhD in Internal Medicine from Qld, GradDip in Management from CQU, and BAppSc in Medical Laboratory Science from RMIT. As a Professor, she leads the OptiBlood translational research team focusing on optimizing patient blood use and donated blood management. Her research collaborations span international institutions including the Karolinska Institute, Linköping University in Sweden, and multiple Australian hospitals.
Lin serves as President-Elect of the International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT) and chairs Blood Management committees for Metro North/South Health Services. Her expertise includes transfusion medicine, blood donor practices, TRALI, and neutrophil immunobiology. She has authored over 80 peer-reviewed papers and secured $4.5M in research grants. Current projects explore Asian blood donation practices, cryopreserved platelets, and blood management in cardiac/orthopedic surgery.
Teaching responsibilities include Blood Banking, Transfusion Science, and Haematology at UniSC. Her OptiBlood team investigates refrigerated platelets, TRALI mechanisms, and donor demographics. She mentors 4 PhD and 1 MSc students and collaborates internationally on aging-related blood use challenges.
