Lily Garnett is a researcher affiliated with the University of Reading, specializing in Palaeopathology, Bioarchaeology, and Museum Collections. Her work focuses on health, migration, and biomolecular analysis in ancient populations, particularly through the study of Romano-British remains.
Education includes a BA in Archaeology and Ancient History (Newcastle University), an MA in Museum Studies (Newcastle University), and an MSc in Professional Human Osteoarchaeology (University of Reading). Her MSc research on Paget’s disease in a Surrey cemetery population was published in the International Journal of Paleopathology.
Current research includes the Blood lines project, a collaboration with the Natural History Museum, London. This project investigates thalassaemia’s evolution in Romano-British populations using ancient DNA analysis of Poundbury Camp cemetery remains (c.1200 individuals). Supervisors include Professors Mary Lewis and Hella Eckardt, alongside Drs Selina Brace and Rachel Ives.
