معرفی
Liliane Schoofs is a Full Professor at the Department of Biology, Faculty of Sciences, KU Leuven, where she leads the Functional Genomics and Proteomics lab. She has held leadership roles including Division Head of Animal Physiology and Neurobiology (2010-2014) and Vicerector for Research Policy (2013-2017). Her research focuses on neuropeptide signaling in behavior and physiology, particularly in model organisms like Caenorhabditis elegans and Drosophila.
- 1999 - Present: Full Professor, KU Leuven
- 2010 - 2014: Division Head, Animal Physiology and Neurobiology
- 2013 - 2017: Vicerector for Research Policy, KU Leuven
Education: PhD in Sciences (KU Leuven, 1988). Research experience includes INSERM (France) and USDA (USA) postdoctoral fellowships.
Research Interests: Schoofs investigates neuropeptide-GPCR interactions, their role in learning and memory, evolutionary conserved signaling pathways, and aging mechanisms. Her work revisits endocrinology paradigms, such as the ancient origin of the TRH system and metformin-induced lifespan extension via mitohormesis.
Scientific Awards:
- ERC Advanced Grant (2014)
- Elected member of EMBO (2022)
- Elected member of the Royal Flemish Academy (2010)
Teaching & Outreach: Courses on immunological biotechnology, genome analysis, and animal physiology. Her lab has produced 51 PhD graduates, and her research receives extensive media coverage. She has delivered over 270 invited lectures.
