Lilian Chooback is a Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Central Oklahoma, teaching Biochemistry I and II, Experimental Biochemistry, and General Chemistry courses from her office in STEM 235, Box 88.
Her research spans Biochemistry, Structural Biology, Enzyme Kinetics, and Drug Design, with deep expertise in protein chemistry and bacterial enzyme systems. She specializes in the structural and functional characterization of dihydrodipicolinate synthase from Escherichia coli, employing X-ray crystallography, kinetic assays, and molecular biology techniques to investigate enzyme mechanisms and inhibition.
Analysis of her 25+ publications reveals sustained focus on enzyme inhibition dynamics and structural biology, particularly regarding bacterial metabolic enzymes. Her work on dihydrodipicolinate synthase has elucidated inhibitor binding mechanisms relevant to antibiotic development, while extending to myoglobin, aminotransferases, and vacuolar pumps. This body of work demonstrates consistent contributions to understanding fundamental enzymatic processes with translational implications for antimicrobial drug design.
