Likun Mao is a Lecturer in the Department of Economics within the Business School at the University of Aberdeen, where she joined in summer 2022. Her research focuses on health economics, education economics, the economics of ageing, and the role of Information Communication Technologies (ICTs).
Her research interests lie at the intersection of economic behavior and health outcomes, particularly among older populations. She investigates how public policies, technological adoption, and social engagement affect health and employment. Key areas include telemedicine access, environmental health interventions, volunteering as a pathway to employment, and digital technology’s impact on cognitive aging.
Her recent publications reveal a strong trend in applying rigorous econometric methods to longitudinal datasets like TILDA, with a focus on aging populations. The work spans health economics, environmental policy, labor markets, and digital inclusion, often using quasi-experimental designs to assess causal impacts.
Likun Mao is an active member of the Centre for European Labour Market Research (CeLMR) and serves on the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee. She contributes to teaching at both postgraduate and undergraduate levels, including courses in personnel economics and quantitative methods.
