Lijun Zhang is an Associate Professor in the Department of Population and Quantitative Health Sciences at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU), School of Medicine. He joined CWRU in 2022 after serving as an Assistant and Associate Professor at Penn State University, where he held roles in the Institute for Personalized Medicine and the Cancer Institute. Dr. Zhang earned his PhD in Computer Science from the University of Louisville (2009), followed by postdoctoral training in Biostatistics and Bioinformatics at Emory University and Neurology at Penn State University.
His research focuses on developing computational methods to analyze high-dimensional biomedical data, with key areas including cancer genomics, neuroimaging, and microbial pathogen detection. He has pioneered tools like imply for cell-type deconvolution and contributed to optical genome mapping in oncology. His work integrates machine learning, statistical modeling, and bioinformatics to advance diagnostics and therapeutics in diseases like Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, and acute myeloid leukemia.
Awards include NSF travel grants, ENAR recognition, and honors from the Organization for Human Brain Mapping. Zhang collaborates widely with clinicians, computer scientists, and biologists, addressing translational challenges in precision medicine. He also serves as an Adjunct Professor at Penn State University and trains students in systems biology and bioinformatics.
