Lijun Shang is Professor of Biomedical Science at London Metropolitan University's School of Human Sciences. A Fellow of the Physiological Society and Higher Education Academy, his research spans ion channel biology, biomedical applications of nanomaterials, and biosecurity governance. He leads international initiatives in biological security education and has secured over £2m in research funding.
His work includes developing biological security frameworks under the Biological Weapons Convention, nanoparticle toxicology studies, and ethical analyses of gene editing technologies. Shang directs policy-focused projects funded by Research England and the Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust, collaborating with global institutions on security education networks.
