Lihong Wang is the Bren Professor of Medical Engineering and Electrical Engineering at the California Institute of Technology, holding the Andrew and Peggy Cherng Medical Engineering Leadership Chair. He also serves as Executive Officer for Medical Engineering within the Division of Engineering and Applied Science. His research focuses on quantum imaging, photoacoustic tomography, and ultrafast imaging technologies.
Education: B.S. (1984), M.S. (1987) from Huazhong University of Science and Technology; Ph.D. (1992) from Rice University. He joined Caltech as a Visiting Associate in 2016 and became Bren Professor in 2017. He leads the Caltech Optical Imaging Laboratory, pioneering advancements in imaging physics and biomedical applications.
Research interests include quantum imaging, photoacoustic tomography, and light-speed photography. His lab develops novel technologies like single-shot 3D photoacoustic tomography and transcranial imaging methods. Recent work addresses clinical translation of imaging modalities and quantum imaging applications in biological systems.
Key contributions include innovations in wavefront shaping, thermoacoustic imaging, and non-invasive diagnostic tools. His lab actively recruits graduate students and postdocs for projects in imaging physics and engineering.
