Xueding Wang

Xueding Wang serves as the Jonathan Rubin Collegiate Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Michigan, where he leads the Optical Imaging Lab. His research develops cutting-edge multimodal imaging technologies combining photoacoustic, optical coherence tomography, and ultrasound methodologies for biomedical diagnostics and therapy.

His educational foundation includes a B.S. in Electrical Engineering (1997) and M.S. in Acoustics (2000) from Nanjing University, China, followed by a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from Texas A&M University (2004). He completed postdoctoral training in Radiology at the University of Michigan (2004-2005).

Wang's research spans photoacoustic imaging, optical coherence tomography, and ultrasound with applications in ophthalmology (retinal/choroidal imaging), oncology (cancer detection/therapy), and rheumatology (arthritis assessment). His work integrates deep learning for image analysis and focuses on translational solutions for clinical problems, particularly non-invasive vascular and tumor treatments.

Recent publications reveal a strong trend toward therapeutic applications of photo-mediated ultrasound therapy (PUT) for vascular conditions and cancer, alongside endoscopic/needle-based probes for gastrointestinal and prostate applications. His group pioneers molecular imaging using nanoparticle contrast agents and longitudinal monitoring of disease progression in Alzheimer's models.
