Lieven Ameel is a Senior Lecturer and Docent at the University of Helsinki's Department of Finnish, Finno-Ugrian and Scandinavian Studies, affiliated with the Faculty of Arts. He serves as a supervisor for the Doctoral Programme in Philosophy, Arts, and Society. His research focuses on intersections between literature, space, and urban studies, particularly exploring toponymy, narrative geography, and urban imaginaries in Scandinavian and Finnish contexts. Ameel has organized international conferences like the Association for Literary Urban Studies event and contributed to peer reviews for journals like Yhdyskuntasuunnittelu. He leads the Helsinki Literature and the City Network project (2011–present), fostering interdisciplinary urban humanities research.
