Anna Hollsten is a Senior Lecturer in Finnish Literature at the University of Helsinki's Department of Finnish, Finno-Ugrian and Scandinavian Studies. She holds a Docent title in Finnish Literature and supervises doctoral candidates in the Doctoral Programmes in School, Education, Society, and Culture, as well as Philosophy, Arts, and Society. Her research focuses on modern Finnish poetry (post-1940s), literature and emotions, autobiographicality, environmental criticism, and poetry theory. She has published extensively on topics such as grief representation in elegies, emotional effects in literature, and the intersection of poetry with cultural history.
Her teaching covers Finnish literary history, contemporary literature, literary theory, environmental criticism, and children's literature. She has led projects including 'Literature and Emotions: Creating Emotion Effects and Affecting Readers' and '1960s–1970s Finnish Autobiographical Poetry.'
Recent research includes studies on Pentti Saarikoski's performative confession, emotional dynamics in civil war poetry, and the interplay between poetry and cultural memory. She regularly participates in academic activities such as conference presentations, doctoral thesis supervision, and editorial work, and has contributed to media discussions on Finnish literature trends.
