Lida P. Hariri is an Assistant Professor of Pathology at Harvard Medical School and an Assistant Pathologist at Massachusetts General Hospital. Her research focuses on developing and clinically applying high-resolution optical imaging techniques, particularly optical coherence tomography (OCT), for early detection and diagnosis of pulmonary diseases such as idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and lung cancer. She aims to improve diagnostic accuracy and therapeutic monitoring through minimally invasive, non-surgical methods.

Dr. Hariri's work centers on overcoming the limitations of current diagnostic tools like high-resolution CT (HRCT) and surgical biopsies by leveraging OCT's microscopic resolution. Her clinical studies explore OCT's ability to visualize features such as honeycombing in IPF patients with non-diagnostic HRCTs and its potential for longitudinal disease monitoring.
Her recent publications highlight advancements in OCT technology for lung disease diagnostics, including polarization-sensitive OCT for tumor-fibrosis differentiation and endobronchial OCT for IPF assessment. These studies emphasize improved biopsy yield and non-destructive, repeatable imaging.
