Liat Berdugo is an Assistant Professor of Art + Architecture at the University of San Francisco. She is a dual-appointment faculty member in the Honors College and serves as Program Coordinator for UI/UX (User Interface/User Experience) design initiatives. Her work bridges artistic practice with critical scholarship, focusing on embodiment, labor, and militarization within Middle Eastern contexts.
Education: MFA in Digital + Media from Rhode Island School of Design (2013), BA in Mathematics and Philosophy from Brown University (2008).
Research explores intersections of new media art with political economies, including citizen media practices in conflict zones, digital resistance aesthetics, and the weaponization of visual technologies. Her monograph The Weaponized Camera in the Middle East (2021) examines videography's role in Israel/Palestine's geopolitical dynamics.
Recent awards include the SFMOMA SECA Art Award Nomination (2023) and residencies at The Internet Archive (2020) and Media Archaeology Lab (2019). Her work has been exhibited at MoMA PS1, Transmediale, and Yerba Buena Center for the Arts.
Co-founder of the Living Room Light Exchange new media series and member of the art collective Anxious to Make. Active in pedagogical innovation, her writings appear in Rhizome, Places Journal, and Real Life.
