Liana Gynn

Dr. Liana Gynn is a Lecturer in Biomedical Science at the University of the West of England, Faculty of Health and Applied Sciences. She teaches across BSc/MSci (Hons) Biomedical Science and Biological Sciences programs, leading modules in Research Skills and Current Issues in Applied Sciences.

Her research centers on leukaemia-bone marrow stroma interactions, demonstrating bidirectional damage and leukaemic cell protection in co-culture models. She investigates cytokine-mediated communication in the tumour microenvironment and hypoxia-driven adaptations, with current work focused on the leukaemic microenvironment 'secretome' supported by a Vice-Chancellor's Early Career Researcher Award.

Dr. Gynn leads research in the Centre for Research in Biosciences through collaborations with Royal United Hospital, Bath and UWE colleagues including Dr. Jen May, Dr. Liz Anderson, and Dr. Gareth Robinson. Her grant portfolio includes projects on electrochemically-activated solution toxicity, hypoxia-induced pancreatic cancer signaling, and Raman Spectroscopy analysis of chemotherapy effectiveness.
