Dr Liam Gammon is a Research Fellow at the Australia-Japan Research Centre within the Crawford School of Public Policy at the Australian National University (ANU). His research focuses on political institutions and democratic quality in Southeast Asia, particularly Indonesia. He recently completed his PhD at ANU's Coral Bell School of Asia Pacific Affairs, examining how Indonesia's electoral system mitigates political personalization caused by its shift to presidentialism in the early 2000s. He is currently developing a book manuscript based on this thesis.

His research interests include electoral systems, constitutional design, and the political economy of regional integration under agreements like the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP). He contributes to the East Asia Forum and co-leads the editorial board of its Indonesia section. He has held editorial roles for New Mandala, an ANU-based platform for Southeast Asian studies.
Dr Gammon collaborates on projects such as the Knowledge Sector Initiative (Phase 2), regulatory cooperation in Southeast Asia, and evidence-based policy initiatives like the Tifa-New Mandala Regional Learning Hub.
