Liam Bagley

Liam Bagley is a Senior Lecturer in Physiology and Pharmacology at Manchester Metropolitan University, where he leads the BSc Human Physiology and BSc Human Bioscience programs. He holds honorary researcher positions at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust and serves as External Examiner at the University of Leeds.

Education includes a PhD in Skeletal Muscle and Exercise Physiology from Manchester Metropolitan University and a PgCert in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education.

Research interests focus on:

• Functional exercise testing for surgical risk assessment
• Exercise as medicine for aging and surgical populations
• High-intensity interval training efficacy
• Neuromuscular adaptations across the lifespan
• Workplace simulation in science education

Key projects investigate ventilatory inefficiency in surgical outcomes, prehabilitation for abdominal surgery, and physical activity interventions for refugees. He has developed innovative pedagogical approaches including storytelling-based education and technical skills assessments.
