Dr. Liadhan McAnena serves as a Regulatory Research Officer and Research Associate in the School of Biomedical Sciences within the Faculty of Life & Health Sciences at Ulster University. Based at the Coleraine campus, she maintains an active research profile with numerous publications in high-impact journals and multiple ongoing research projects through 2026.
Her primary research interests focus on nutritional biochemistry, particularly B-vitamin metabolism including riboflavin and vitamin B12, and vestibular nerve stimulation applications. Her work examines gene-nutrient interactions, cognitive function in older adults, insomnia treatments through neurostimulation, and vitamin supplementation effects on bone density and child nutrition. She has made significant contributions to understanding how nutritional factors interact with genetic variations to influence health outcomes.
Dr. McAnena's recent publications demonstrate a strong trend toward interdisciplinary research combining nutritional science with neurological applications. Her work spans clinical trials, population studies, and laboratory research, with particular emphasis on translating findings into practical health interventions. The research shows increasing focus on neurostimulation techniques for sleep disorders alongside ongoing nutritional biochemistry investigations.
She actively collaborates on multiple funded research projects including vestibular stimulation studies for neurological improvement, investigations into live biotherapeutic products for obesity-related conditions, and refinement of Ulster University's Life & Health Sciences strategy for commercial engagement. Her projects involve collaborations with industry partners including Neurovalens Ltd and funding from organizations like Invest Northern Ireland.
Based in Room W2034 at Cromore Road, Coleraine, Dr. McAnena contributes to Ulster University's research infrastructure through equipment enhancement projects and maintains an active presence in the academic community with publications consistently appearing in top-tier journals across nutrition, neurology, and clinical medicine fields.
