Li Shi is a Professor and Ernest Cockrell, Sr. Chair in Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin’s Cockrell School of Engineering. His research focuses on advanced materials science, clean energy technologies, and thermal transport phenomena in nanomaterials. He leads the Laboratory of Quantum Materials for Sustainable Technologies, pioneering studies on ultrahigh-thermal conductivity materials like boron arsenide (BAs) and graphene-based composites. His work bridges fundamental physics with industrial applications, including thermal management for electronics and biomedical nanotechnologies.
Research Highlights: Seminal contributions include demonstrating BAs as a high-thermal-conductivity semiconductor and developing novel fabrication methods for nanostructured materials. His team’s exploration of magnon-phonon interactions and spintronic materials has advanced energy-efficient technologies.
- Awards: Touloukian Award, Heat Transfer Memorial Award, O’Donnell Engineering Award, Invitation Fellowship for Research in Japan.
- Labs/Teams: Laboratory of Quantum Materials for Sustainable Technologies.
- Grants/Advising: Supervises graduate researchers and postdocs in multidisciplinary projects, with open positions for diverse talent.
