Dr. Lexy Sorrell is a Senior Research Fellow in Medical Statistics at the University of Plymouth’s Peninsula Medical School (Faculty of Health). Her research focuses on statistical methodologies for clinical trials and observational studies, with current projects including the ENRICH trial for mantle-cell lymphoma treatment, the POPPY study on postoperative pain, and the RESOLVE trial for pre-liver surgery dietary interventions. She co-supervises a statistical PhD student and two MSc/MD dissertation students.
Dr. Sorrell’s teaching roles include Evidence-Based Practice for first-year BMBS students and academic tutoring in the same program. Previously, she taught advanced mathematics courses in the School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics. Her expertise spans biostatistics, medical trial design, and statistical inference in healthcare contexts.
Her research interests emphasize translational statistics, particularly in oncology, pain management, and surgical outcomes. Notable projects include the RETREAT trial for NF2-related schwannomatosis and the SPEED study on splenic artery injury management. She collaborates with major UK trauma centers and contributes to national healthcare guidelines.
Dr. Sorrell’s work aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly improving health equity and quality of life through evidence-based medical practices. She actively participates in medical education innovation, including studies on student-patient interactions during the pandemic.
