Lewis Scotty Long

Lewis Scotty Long is an Assistant Professor and lead for Vector Biology and Medical Parasitology at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS) in Bethesda, MD. He is affiliated with the School of Medicine and the Department of Preventive Medicine and Biostatistics, where he directs the Vector Biology and Parasitology Program.

LTC Long specializes in medical entomology and acarology, with expertise in vector systematics, integrated pest management, and environmental science. His work bridges biology and public health, focusing on disease vector control and biosystematics research.

His military career includes leadership roles such as Executive Officer and Staff Entomologist for the Deputy Chief of Staff for Public Health at USAMEDCOM, Director of Laboratory Services and Environmental Services for US Army Public Health Command-Pacific (Japan), and Deputy Director of Virology at USAMRIID. He has deployed to Iraq, Afghanistan, and Japan for operational support, including roles in medical detachments and disaster response (Operation Tomodachi).
