Lev Yampolsky serves as Professor and H.I.D Coordinator in the Department of Biological Sciences within East Tennessee State University's School of Science, Engineering, and Math. His academic leadership spans teaching core genetics courses and directing evolutionary research.
Research focuses on gene expression evolution under environmental stressors (temperature, nutrients, xenobiotics) and genetic perturbations (chromosomal aberrations, gene duplications). His lab investigates whether phenotypic plasticity constrains adaptive evolution or creates new selection targets, employing microarray, RNAseq, and bioinformatics with model organisms including Drosophila, Daphnia, and Lake Baikal crustaceans. Key questions address plasticity loss mechanisms in stable environments and cross-environmental trade-offs.
