Lester Lynch

Lester Lynch is a globally recognized baritone who joined the Voice Department faculty at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music (SFCM) in Fall 2024. With over 30 years of professional performance experience on prestigious stages including Teatro alla Scala, Royal Opera House, and Berlin Philharmoniker, he brings exceptional artistry to his teaching.

His educational background includes:

Lynch specializes in vocal technique and performance artistry, emphasizing posture, vowel clarity, and elegant phrasing while maintaining character authenticity. His teaching philosophy centers on practical techniques for stage presence, with mantras like 'keep the vowels alive' and 'be prepared for the onset of pitch,' drawing from decades performing dramatic baritone roles worldwide.

As a dedicated pedagogue, Lynch maintains a select studio of voice students at SFCM, focusing on technical proficiency and artistic expression. His masterclasses emphasize practical techniques, believing 'there are so many ways to do this... I've heard singers do things and I've thought 'my god, how are they getting the sound out?' But they get it out–and more power to them.'

Lynch works within SFCM's tight-knit Voice Department, which provides students access to San Francisco Opera dress rehearsals and Bay Area performance opportunities. His studio participates in regular recitals, including the December 2025 Voice Studio Recital with colleague Richard Cox.
