Leslie Meltzer Henry, JD, PhD, is a Professor at the Johns Hopkins Berman Institute of Bioethics and a Professor of Law at the University of Maryland Carey School of Law. Her work bridges bioethics, public health law, and constitutional law. She holds degrees from the University of Virginia (B.A.), Oxford University (M.Sc.), Yale Law School (J.D.), and the University of Virginia (Ph.D.).
Her research focuses on public health law and policy, reproductive justice, and research ethics, with a particular emphasis on legal and ethical challenges in HIV prevention, fetal medicine, and clinical trials involving pregnant women. She has contributed to major publications such as the New England Journal of Medicine and edited symposia on topics like vaccine compensation systems and health care cost containment.
Professor Henry’s scholarship addresses complex issues at the intersection of law, ethics, and public health, advocating for equitable policies and robust protections in biomedical research. She has also served as an associate editor of the Oxford Handbook of Public Health Ethics and contributed to the Oxford Textbook of Clinical Research Ethics.
