Leslie Geddes is an Associate Professor in Art History at Tulane University's Department of Art, specializing in Italian Renaissance & Baroque Art. She serves as Director of Undergraduate Studies and is affiliated with Tulane's Medieval and Early Modern Studies Program (MEMS) and Environmental Studies Program (EVST).
Education:
- Ph.D. in Art History from Princeton University
- B.A. from Columbia University
Her research explores the intersection of early modern art and science, focusing on landscape representation, hydraulic engineering, and cartographic practices during the Little Ice Age. Current projects include the book Unknowable Shores: The Art and Science of Early Modern Navigation.
Recent awards include the Robert Lehman Fellowship at Villa I Tatti and subventions from the Barr Ferree Publication Fund and Tulane's School of Liberal Arts. She has upcoming research residencies at Yale Center for British Art, Harry Ransom Center, and Clark Art Institute.
Professor Geddes supervises graduate research in Renaissance art, landscape theory, and scientific illustration. Her teaching includes courses on Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Renaissance Empires of Exchange, and the special donor-supported seminar 'How to Acquire a Work of Art'.
