Lesley Beaumont is an Associate Professor of Archaeology and Chair of the Discipline of Archaeology at the University of Sydney's Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. She holds a BA (Hons) in Ancient History and Archaeology from the University of Birmingham and a PhD in Classical Archaeology from University College London (UCL). Prior to her current role, she served as Assistant Director of the British School at Athens. Her research focuses on childhood in antiquity, Mediterranean archaeology, and bioarchaeological methods, with a notable emphasis on the Zagora Archaeological Project in Greece. She is a leading figure in studies of ancient childhood, co-editing major works such as Children in Antiquity: Perspectives and Experiences of Childhood in the Ancient Mediterranean (2021) and Childhood in Ancient Athens (2012). Her fieldwork explores Early Iron Age settlements, while her academic roles include membership in the Australian Archaeological Institute at Athens and the University of Sydney's Academic Board. Beaumont's work bridges archaeology, history, and social sciences, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to reconstructing past societies.
