Lepomir Čoga serves as Full Professor in the Department of Plant Nutrition at the University of Zagreb's Faculty of Agriculture, where he has held progressive academic positions since 1987. His office is located in the VI pavilion, room 113, and he teaches specialized courses in plant nutrition and soil science.
His educational background includes:
- PhD (1996-2000) on cadmium/zinc distribution in soil-water-plant systems
- Master's (1993-1996) on drainage effects on nitrogen/heavy metals
- Dipl.ing.agr. (1983-1987) from the same institution
Professor Čoga's research centers on plant nutrition ecology and soil amelioration, with emphasis on sustainable agricultural practices. His work bridges fundamental soil science with practical applications in horticulture and environmental protection, particularly examining nutrient dynamics in Mediterranean cropping systems. He investigates heavy metal behavior in soils, hydroponic techniques for functional crops, and organic amendments for soil fertility.
His 2015-2020 publications reveal consistent focus on soil-plant interactions, with recurring themes in heavy metal management (cadmium, zinc), alternative fertilizers (vermicompost, biomass ash), and nutritional quality of specialty crops (nettle, Marasca cherry, lamb's lettuce). The research demonstrates methodological diversity spanning field trials, hydroponic systems, and soil fractionation analysis.
He coordinates major projects funded by the Croatian Science Foundation, MZOS, and European Social Fund, including nettle hydroponics (2020-2024), biomass ash utilization (2019-2020), and agricultural pollution monitoring. His leadership extends to serving as Department Head since 2015 and President of the Faculty Statute Commission.
Active in professional societies including the Academy of Agricultural Sciences and International Society for Horticultural Science, he also contributes to national policy as Ministry of Environment authority holder and committee member for organic fertilizer regulations.
