Leonor Leandro

Dr. Leonor Leandro is an Associate Professor in the Department of Plant Pathology and Microbiology at Iowa State University. Her research focuses on fungal diseases of soybean, particularly Fusarium virguliforme (soybean sudden death syndrome, SDS) and root rot pathogens. She investigates sustainable practices like cover crops and biochar to enhance crop resilience and reduce environmental impact. Dr. Leandro also teaches courses in mycology, research ethics, and professional communication. She earned a PhD in Plant Pathology from Iowa State University, an MS in Environmental Science from the University of Nottingham, and a BS in Agricultural Science from Technical University of Lisbon.

Research interests include fungal epidemiology, soilborne pathogens, and climate-smart agriculture. Current projects explore cropping system diversification, biochar applications, and essential oils for disease control.
