Carl Bradley is a Professor of Plant Pathology at the University of Kentucky's Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment. He serves as an Extension Professor and Plant Pathology Extension Specialist at the UK Research and Education Center in Princeton, KY, where he leads educational and applied research programs focused on disease management of small grains, soybeans, and canola across Kentucky.
Dr. Bradley received his educational training at prestigious institutions:
- Ph.D. in Plant Pathology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (2001)
- M.S. in Plant Pathology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (1999)
- B.S. in Plant and Soil Sciences from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale (1995)
His research program centers on plant disease management with particular expertise in:
- Fungal pathogens affecting major row crops
- Fungicide efficacy and resistance management
- Seedling diseases and seed treatment technologies
- Disease impact on crop yield and quality
- Integrated disease management strategies
Analysis of Dr. Bradley's recent publications reveals a strong focus on soybean diseases, particularly frogeye leaf spot caused by Cercospora sojina, sudden death syndrome caused by Fusarium virguliforme, and various seedling diseases. His work spans molecular characterization of pathogens, fungicide sensitivity testing, and field evaluation of disease management strategies. A significant portion of his research involves multi-state collaborations examining yield loss due to diseases across major production regions.
Dr. Bradley leads the Bradley Lab, which includes graduate research assistants and agricultural specialists working on various aspects of plant pathology research and extension. His team conducts field and laboratory research to develop practical disease management recommendations for Kentucky farmers.
As an Extension Professor, Dr. Bradley bridges the gap between academic research and practical agricultural applications, providing vital disease management information to stakeholders across Kentucky's agricultural community.
