Leonor Elías is a Professor of Spanish at Westmont College, where she has served on the faculty since 1999. Her academic career is anchored in Hispanic literary studies with a focus on Spanish language and cultural scholarship.
Her educational foundation includes:
- Double major in English Literature and German Literature from Middlebury College, Vermont
- Master's degree in Hispanic Literature from Middlebury College, Madrid
- Doctorate in Hispanic Literature from the University of Texas with concentrations in Golden Age literature, Spanish theater throughout the ages, and colonial literature
Dr. Elías' research centers on Spanish Golden Age Theater (comedia nueva) and 20th Century Peninsular Literature and Film. Her multilingual expertise—native fluency in Spanish and English, advanced German proficiency, and strong Italian skills—enriches her analysis of cross-cultural narratives. Having grown up in Monterrey, Mexico in a bicultural household and studied across England, the former Soviet Union, Spain, and Italy, she brings a uniquely global perspective to Iberian Peninsula literary traditions. Her work examines historical theatrical forms alongside modern cinematic expressions, revealing continuities in Spanish cultural identity.
Available for student consultations during designated office hours in Reynolds Hall 206, she maintains an active academic presence through her teaching and research despite no recent publications or awards being documented in available sources.
