Leonidas Pittos

Leonidas Pittos is an Associate Professor of Teaching in Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies and Associate Chair at Wayne State University's Department of Classical and Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures. He specializes in Late Byzantine religious and intellectual history, with current projects including translations of St. Gregory Palamas' works and studies on Post-Byzantine Greek historiography.

Research Interests: Pittos focuses on Byzantine religious texts, Eastern Christian history, and the intersection of Byzantine legacy in modern Greek historiography. His work bridges medieval and post-medieval Greek cultural identity.

Teaching: Pittos teaches Modern Greek language and courses on Byzantine civilization, early Christianity, Greek identity, and globalization. Recent courses include Byzantine Civilization, Modern Greek Literature and Culture, and Athens and the Ancient Greek World.
