Leonel Garcia-Marques is a Full Professor at the School of Psychology, University of Lisbon. He earned his PhD from the University of Lisbon (1993) after training at the University of California, Santa Barbara (1989–1990) under Prof. David L. Hamilton. His leadership roles include Head of the Department (2013–2020) and Coordinator of the Research Center (2015–2021).
- Research Interests: Cognitive Psychology, Social Psychology, Social Cognition, and Philosophy of Science. His work explores the interplay between memory and social processes like stereotype formation, judgment, and decision-making, as well as statistical epistemology.
Projects: Led grants funded by Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT), including studies on stereotype paradoxes (2011–2014), dual-process social cognition (2007–2010), and memory-structured learning (2022–2026). He served as Associate Editor for journals like British Journal of Social Psychology (2023–present) and European Journal of Social Psychology (2006–2008).
- Scientific Contributions: Pioneering work on social cognition models (TRAP model), stereotype dynamics, and methodological critiques in statistical analysis.
Labs & Collaborations: Affiliated with research groups at the University of Lisbon, including CICPSI and ProAdapt, and actively involved in the European Social Cognition Network.
