Leonard Goff is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Calgary. His research focuses on causal inference, applied econometrics, and labor economics, with particular attention to nonwage aspects of work and market power. He holds a PhD in Economics from Columbia University, alongside advanced degrees in Physics (M.Sc., University of British Columbia; B.S., University of Maryland) and Philosophy (B.A., University of Maryland).
His research interests span econometric methodologies—including nonparametric identification and treatment effects—and labor market dynamics such as overtime pay policies and labor market power. He also explores environmental economics, including the impact of forest certification programs, and subjective well-being as a measure of inequality. His work has been published in journals like the Journal of Human Resources, Journal of Econometrics, and American Economic Association Papers & Proceedings.
Goff teaches courses in econometrics and causal inference, and has developed statistical software tools for Stata and R, including the ivcombine and rdbounds functions. He is involved in outreach activities such as the UCalgary Math Camp and maintains an active presence in academic collaborations, evidenced by his numerous co-authored publications.
